Terri Mottershead

Terri Mottershead is the Executive Director of the Centre for Legal Innovation (CLI) at the College of Law. She collaborates internationally with leaders of legal businesses to transform capabilities and practices. Terri leads CLI’s global initiatives including the Legal Generative AI Initiative, Legalpreneurs Lab and The Legalpreneurs Sandbox podcast. As a thought leader in legal practice management innovation for over three decades, Terri is a frequent keynote speaker and consults on legal ecosystem trends and their practical impact on legal practice at global, regional and local industry events.

In 2024, Terri’s work in legal generative AI was recognised with her appointment as the inaugural Chair of the Queensland Law Society’s AI in Legal Practice Consulting Committee, selected as one of five International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) global Influential Women in Legaltech Honorees, and named as a Finalist in the inaugural Australian AI Awards 2024 in the "AI Female Leader of the Year - Enterprise" category. Additionally, she Chairs the Queensland Law Society’s Innovation Committee, serves as a member of the Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC) global Education Advisory Council, and is a member (Australia) of the Asia-Pacific Legal Innovation & Technology Association (ALITA).

Prior to joining CLI, Terri was a practising lawyer, practical legal educator, founded start-ups on three different continents, and established or led the talent management functions for global firms and associations in Asia and the US including Lex Mundi, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, and DLA Piper LLP (US).

Terri holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) (QIT), Master of Laws (UQ), Master of Business Administration (Dist) (UW), Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (QIT), and Graduate Diploma of Legal Business (High Dist) (COL).
